Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - CEF A1
Doctor Henry Jekyll is a very successful doctor at the age of thirty-one. He lives in a very nice house in the centre of London and he has a butler named Poole. Dr Jekyll is a tall, thin man, and he is always very well-dressed. He wears expensive grey suits and large bow-ties. He has short, dark hair and he has a thin moustache. Dr Jekyll's laboratory is at the top of some very long dark stairs. The lights in that part of the house are usually on very late at night. On the night when this story begins, Dr Jekyll is in his laboratory, writing in his diary. There are lots of shelves and tables in the laboratory. They are all covered with bottles with different liquids in them. There are also old books and microscopes on the table. Dr Jekyll is sitting in the middle of all this, still in his long white laboratory coat, writing quickly. Otto-Classics Graded Readers Series are outstanding classics written by famous writers. The language and vocabulary in the books are controlled and simplified by specialist ELT authors and compilers according to Common European Framework so that they can be easily understood by new learners of English. Depending on the eight levels from A1 to B2+, the longer stories are divided into a number of chapters and every chapter has its own activities. Some of the activities in the books are meant to be done in pairs. You may work with a partner to solve problems and design projects that reflect not only your own thinking but also new ideas you and your mates will discover by working in groups.
